在一般人的觀念裡，家中飼養貓狗容易造成小朋友呼吸道疾病，但根據最新的國外研究發現，要防止氣喘病發生，反而更要從小就開始養狗，尤其7歲之前免疫系統正在發育，和帶有細菌的狗相處，免疫系統反而會強化，長大後罹患氣喘的機率，只有一般人的十分之一。
小朋友放學後和小狗一起玩耍，是最快樂的事情，家裡面養狗不但為全家人帶來歡笑，而且對健康也很有幫助。根據醫學研究，孩童7歲前和小狗一起生活，因為免疫系統還在發育，遇到狗身上帶有的細菌，免疫能力會自然增強，長大後罹患氣喘的機率只有一般人的十分之一。
但很多家長都誤以為貓和狗的毛，是引起孩童氣喘的元兇，為了保護孩童，就讓他們服用抗生素。不過，國外追蹤1萬3千名加拿大兒童使用抗生素的情形，發現1歲之前服用抗生素的嬰兒，長大後罹患氣喘的機率反而大增。
現代醫藥發達，但藥品不是萬靈丹，讓小朋友在大自然裡多和小動物們接觸，才是健康的成長之道。
This past weekend, I host a party at home. A friend of mine took her 3 kids to my party. her youngest baby has Atopic ecazema. when she came, she said that she was AFRAID that her baby would be allergic to My dog!!! I said, "the hair would not fly around! it would go down, NOT UP!" And she was still Very concerned!! Then I said, "ok, I will lock my dog up!"
Now I think about it, WHY should I lock my dog up?! It's OUR house and OUR party!! Why should she stay in her room just cuz someone's baby has allergy?!?! THATS NOT FAIR!!
Ever since she has kids, she gets OVERLY CONCERN and OVERLY PROTECTED of her kids, OH WELL, Christina is MY KID and My family, if she was so concerned, then she shouldnt bring her kid with her!
HA, now I read this research finding, I can bring this article and show it to her!!
Well, I have asthma and allergic to lots of things, and I live with my dog, BUT I never had a problem cuz of my dog!!
she's a dentis and was bio major in undergrad, she SHOULD've known very well about HOW Immuno system works!! GEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

animal hairs are highly associated with allergy and asthma... at least i believe in that.. although i believe locking up dog is over reaction
Yeh, I do agree with the animal hair and allergy association, and thats what all parents are concerned about! But I also believe that having "antigens" in our living envirnment is only gonna make our immune system stronger than living in a antigent-free environment! Maybe in the begining, we'd suffer a little, but later on, our immune systems already built up a defense system to fight against bad guys!
At the time, I didnt think much, I just tend to think for others, and place others in front of me. so I thought locking my dog up would be BETTER for her baby. but yesterday I thought about it, I felt bad for my dog, and I should've thought more for myself, and ALWAYS for others!
but my dog wasnt locked up, she was busy hanging out with people at the party! :)
